Dear Catherine,
About 4 years ago, I heard Diane Cawein perform at ClarinetFest
'97 in Lubbock, and I was very touched by her virtuosity and beautiful
clarinet playing. At the time, she was working on her doctorate in
clarinet performance, and I have become friends with her in the past few
years. Diane now has her Doctorate, and she is a Professor of Clarinet
at the U. of Nebraska in Lincoln. Diane did study with Robert Marcellus
at Northwestern, and she is a total devotee to his style of playing. I
believe that she was Mr. Marcellus's assistant during his later years
when he was blind.
I have been to a couple of Dr. Diane's Midwest ClariFests in
Lincoln and I enjoyed them immensely. I believe next years' Midwestern
Clarifest will be on Monday, March 11, 2002. I know that Diane has a
very nice website, but I don't know how to send it to you from this
letter. ANNIE

Subject: [kl] Graduate School Search

I am a college senior and I have begun to look into Graduate Schools for the
fall. Does anyone have any good suggestions about what Schools or Teachers I
should look into? I am currently interested in the University of Colorado at
Boulder, but I don't know too much about the teacher there, Daniel Silver. Does
anyone have any good recommendations. I am interested in pursuing my master's in
clarinet performance. I am also interested in woodwind (specifically clarinet)
pedagogy, which is only offered at a few schools that I know of so far. I am from
Virginia, but location is of no importance to me. Money, however is. I hope to
get an assistantship somewhere to help pay for school. I would prefer to study
with someone who has been greatly influenced by or taught by Robert Marcellus.
Thank you for your help :)

Musically,
Catherine Aday
