Dave-

Speaking of Suk and bass clarinet parts....I played Joseph Suk's Pohadka
last year with the orchestra at my school (I was playing principal) The
bass clarinet part only plays in the last movement and only has whole
notes. The guy playing bass clarinet thought it was pretty funny. At
least he had a good sense of humor about it! It's a wonderful piece,
however. The third movement is a lament over the death of his
father-in-law, Dvorak, and is one of the most beautiful things I've ever
heard. I'm so glad that my orchestra conductor at school is a Czech
music nut!
