...Well.... why not carve some sort of 'tracery' into the block.
This would eliminate much of the weight, and it could be a real 'work of
art' --- similar to how the handles of old ivory letter openers were
carved, and the bowls of elegant pipes? Something truly
unique....yes, a full rigged schooner with a sailor playing his clarinet
on the bowsprit... that would be nice. Or maybe a conductor on his
knees and his hands clasped in prayer....
