Apparently Maestro Sawallisch isn't happy with his playing, and he has been
denied tenure. I'm hearing that the players' committee disagrees with the
decision but has no contractual way to reverse it, but it's often hard to
find out what's really happening. The players tend to keep such things among
themselves. From performances I've heard at the Academy of Music, I'd agree
that Sam Caviezel plays very well.
