This brings to mind a piece from National Public Radio several years ago.
Seems there was a group of music professionals who conducted some extensive
surveys to figure out what it was that people liked and disliked in music.
After completing the research, they then tried to develop composite recordings
that would, essentially, represent "music most people like" and "music most
people hate". The "like" recording was a youngish female voice singing a pop
love song against a backdrop of guitars with a strong drum beat -- exactly the
kind of thing you'd hear from a top 40 radio station. Early Britney Spears.

The "hate" recording was much more interesting. It consisted of a shrill
operatic soprano, warbling some sappy country lyrics with a heavy vibrato,
accompanied by bagpipes and tuba. It was outrageous.
