Are we living in a world of complete political correctness, having to
profoundly conduct all our lives into having nothing other than complete
respect for each other`s differences? This is something new isn`t it -
within the last 50 years?

I have a joke. It could be considered to be in bad taste by some, if not
many, but last Friday evening it brought the house down in U.K.

I did my big band gig, and I asked my band leader to temper his political
outburts, as in the past his rantings about Hitler have been somewhat
embarrasing, due to his indulgence in just a little alchohol thru`out the
evening.

Came the moment to play Ellington`s 'Caravan'. A wonderful arrangement using
bass clarinet, flutes and sop. saxes by Adrian Drover a Scottish trombonist
who played with the Maynard Ferguson British band in the `60`s and `70`s.
Our cocky bandleader announced that he had been asked to not politicise, but
never-the-less he was going to tell this one.
Not quite so much a joke as a dedication. And that 'Caravan' on this evening
was to be dedicated to Osama Bin Liner!

Yours apologetically,

Tony W.
