In my 6 years of living continuously in the Far East, I have observed and
read that the Chinese and to some extent other "nationalities" I encountered
in the general area (please excuse me for this broad brush - Chinese is of
course incredibly naive as a race or group of people and "nationalities" is
the wrong word but I'm not sure which word would be better) think of change
in the number of generations it will take to accomplish something serious,
not in the number of years. A factor of 20 in the time scale becomes
somewhat closer to "long run", whatever your definition.

Considering the number of Chinese and other peoples I contact with "vast
majority" may be an overstatement.
