Yesterday I saw the movie "Magnolia" by P.T. Anderson. A nice
film. Especially I like the film music. There is one piece performed
by an orchestra which is very long (maybe with repetitions?) and can
be heard at least half an hour or so, sometimes in the background. The
piece starts with strings similarly to the Adagio for Strings by
Barber, but then the piece is getting more treading (marching) with
dominant oboe and bass clarinet (and therefore not completely
off-topic ;-) I couldn't find any information about it at the end of
the film, maybe I overlooked it.

Can anybody give me some information about the piece, the composer?

Though I cannot give you the information myself, I can send you to the right
place to find it. The Usenet newsgroup, rec.music.movies, is an excellent
resource for people who wish to find out information about film music in
general and music from specific films as well. I am sure someone there will
know about the music from "Magnolia" that you are talking about.
