Subj: [kl] Memorial Concert
Date: Tue, 18 Sep 2001 23:21:18 -0400

The following is a press release from the Washington Symphony Orchestra. These concerts were planned prior to the events on Sept. 11, but now they have a much more important theme. We will have a display for everyone to express their feelings to be presented to the Pentagon.

We will perform:

Gould's American Salute
Selections from Phantom of the Opera(I know, but it was already scheduled and our newly hired director had to put together a concert in two weeks)
Finlandia
Copland's Quite City
Battle Hymn of the Republic with a seque into
America the Beautiful (the Carmen Dragon arrangement w/string parts added)

The last two pieces were added after the events of last week; a Mozart horn concerto was the only piece scrapped. This is just something we thought a community orchestra like ours could do for the Washington, D.C., area. I hope many others follow, because music is so needed right now.
