*I* don't think so! As the composer, you obviously had a firm idea of how
it should sound. I've worked with a lot of composers, and the best ones
have in their ear and idea of what should be coming out. The *very* best
ones are also open to other interpretations than they might have
imagined, assuming that the ideas and their execution are of a high level
of quality.

But if the printed page communicated so well, then we wouldn't have to
perform the music (or *practice* it!). We could simply admire the printed
version of the music, a la Milton Babbitt.
