Donna -

Ideally, if rehearsal time were available, I would choose: "America the
Beautiful", "Beethoven 9th"; 2nd half of concert - Verdi "Requiem".
Encore - "Stars and Stripes Forever". Finale - "God Bless America" and
"The Star Spangled Banner"

Subject: [kl] Memorial program

I just read in the paper that the Philadelphia Orchestra will hold a
concert this Sunday afternoon as a fundraiser for victims of the
terrorist attacks. The content of the program hasn't yet been
announced, nor the conductor (Wolfgang Sawallisch is in Germany and
might not be able to get back here in time).

So, I throw the following question out for discussion:

If you had to put such a program together, what music would you choose,
keeping in mind that it would have to be material that requires minimal
or no rehearsal time and that would be familiar and meaningful for a
large cross-section of the community?
