Fanfare for the Common Man

Zadok the Priest

Barber's Adagio for Strings.

Dvorak 9 (prev. known as no.5 - "From the New World")

Ravel's Pavane pour une Infante Defunte

Amazing Grace (but only if played by the massed pipes and drums)

Of course, I'm assuming that logistical constraints are not an issue - this
is just hypothetical, right? I'd not like to try to fit full orchestra,
Chorus, and the massed pipes and drums into one concert hall.

Regards,

Ian

Subject: [kl] Memorial program

I just read in the paper that the Philadelphia Orchestra will hold a
concert this Sunday afternoon as a fundraiser for victims of the
terrorist attacks. The content of the program hasn't yet been
announced, nor the conductor (Wolfgang Sawallisch is in Germany and
might not be able to get back here in time).

So, I throw the following question out for discussion:

If you had to put such a program together, what music would you choose,
keeping in mind that it would have to be material that requires minimal
or no rehearsal time and that would be familiar and meaningful for a
large cross-section of the community?
