The recent emotional discussions of religious
tolerance and political viewpoints are not like a
thread on reed strength or musical interpretation that
someone is tired of. This is clearly not part of the
Klarinet list, and had it's place Tuesday and
Wednesday as the issues and terror unfolded. It was
news. This situation is not clearing up tomorrow nor
the next day, and I do follow it daily. This has now
become a way of life.

Walter, I live in New York, you don't. Probably, I
have a bigger interest in this than you, since it is
more likely that people I know, like the 500+ people
of a company I worked with 2 years ago on the 50th
floor of 2WTC are wiped from the earth in flames and
carnage. Maybe I don't. I have not heard of anyone you
have lost in the tragedy. I apologize and send my
thoughts to you if you have lost someone. There will
be weeks of people being removed from the destruction,
and years of healing. I will need people to discuss
this with as you and others may also. I will not
discuss my grief on the Klarinet list, as it is an
off-topic subject, and would me better suited to
discuss it on another list, or with people privately
off the list. I will also not discuss my political
views or religious views here. Religious and political
discussions that do not include music relativity, in
my opinion are ALWAYS inappropriate for a music or
other topic-specific list, unless that is what the
list is specific about.

After the first few days of sorrow, grief, relief of
knowing fellow Klarinet members are well, and an
outpouring of good thoughts, we need to move on with
the list. There are discussion groups popping up right
and left to talk about this topic of grief
specifically for the terrorism on Tuesday. I have seen
nothing on this list since Thursday morning that would
be considered grief and healing, only political and
religious face slapping and ridiculous accusations of
people against one another for expressing their view
of religion and politics in an inappropriate forum.
Fighting about who or what is correct for an
inappropriate topic is still off-topic thread.

I didn't sign on to Klarinet for grief management, nor
for a political debate or religious tolerance lessons.
I resent you think I am uncaring and unconcerned...
since you obviously didn't read my whole previous
post. Everyone grieves, and rightfully so. People
before me and after me on this list have had a similar
plea for a return to topics related to the clarinet.
The threads here haven't been coming back on to the
topics related to clarinets because others have felt
it necessary to discuss religious differences,
politics, and have flame wars while the rest of us
look on in horror at the pettiness of the uniquely
UNRELATED threads to grief (much less clarinets, for
that matter.) Politics and religion are not main
thread material for a music list...they could be
related, but not as a main thread in itself. I see
nothing wrong in discussing grief when a national
tragedy when it happens. I see everything wrong in
using this list as a forum to discuss religious
beliefs and politics in the wake of grief.

I don't mean to offend you Walter, nor anyone else. I
can hit the delete key when I see an e-mail about a
music-related thread I don't want to read because it
doesn't interest me. I resent having to constantly
delete what shouldn't have been on the list in the
first place.

Good thoughts to those grieving. Let's discuss
clarinets, what the world has in store for us as
musicians, and solidarity in music, the universal
language.
