Subj: [kl] Klarinet List's purpose
Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2001 21:21:29 -0400

I'm in New York, and between the recycled crap about
this disaster making propaganda headlines and my
mother calling 12 times a day to ask if I had heard
what just happened on the news, I have been logging on
to read messages from the Klarinet list. I
unfortunately have not been able to read much about
music on here in the last 3 days. There are many
places to hash this out politically. Many people have
sent their condolences and thoughts/prayers. I think
all of us in New York appreciate these sentiments.

I would really love to read about the instrument
called the clarinet. It is my livelihood now, and I am
using this forum as a tool to help me facilitate my
career. Most of the other mailing lists I am on have
left the subject on the terrorism and gone back to
their regular threads. This doesn't mean we are
uncaring; just utilizing the list for what it was
meant to be used for..

I am now finding out about people I know possibly
being in the towers when the towers collapsed. I am
very focused on following the updates, as are about 30
channels on my satellite dish and every web portal
from Yahoo to MSNBC. I will continue to get my
information and mourn for people via the official
venues that do this professionally. I do not want to
spend my time rehashing this tragedy here.

My point...and I do have one...is that I'm tired of
deleting 90% of the messages on here. Please let us
get back to discussions of the clarinet and related
musical ideas. I need something else in my social and
intellectual diet besides World Trade Center
discussions that are off topic for a music list. If
anyone needs a list of places to discuss religious
differences, warfare, terrorism, and the sort, the web
is a cornucopia of knowledge, both static and
interactive. If anyone needs help finding a list about
terrorism or US relations, I will go out of my way to
find one for them, as long as it helps us talk about
the clarinet in this forum.

Thanks in advance for understanding the need for some
of us to discuss something different in this trying
time. Sorry for the bitter post.
