Dear Neil,

I'm glad to hear that you are now home. I hope many others can be as
fortunate. I don't really know what I can say, but I can't sit here and say
nothing. I cannot begin to imagine what this experience has been like for
you or anyone else involved, and I hope it is something that we won't have
to experience again. Whatever the outcome of these events, it seems obvious
to me that violence cannot be the answer-it merely prolongues the need to
reach an agreement and unnecesarily involves innocent by-standers and their
families.

I know what I mean to say, but I don't think I have expressed it very
clearly, so I shall just finish by sending my best wishes to everyone.
