Hello everybody.

Thank you for the many words of concern, encouragement, and sympathy that
were sent my way, both via the list and privately. I'm physically ill from
yesterday's events and experiences, and emotionally torn. I try with futil-
ity to block out of my mind contemplations about why I happened to be on the
right PATH train at the right time, where the operator was given the signal
to divert us away from the WTC, while hundreds, possibly thousands of others
on trains ahead were taken to their deaths. I am sick from the guilt and the
sadness. The losses personal, national, and around the world are staggering,
and I mourn for the victims with a depth beyond any I've felt before. Each
hiss and rumble outside my apartment paralyzes me with the fear I felt while
cowering in my office yesterday morning, waiting for debris to come crashing
through the window, or another airliner to plow into Wall Street and end my
life.

The world became a different place yesterday and will never again be as it
was. Let us hope that the coming series of events and actions, set into mo-
tion by yesterday's vicious and inhuman attack, are tempered by acknowledgment
of the fragility of human life on earth. May this lone and cowardly provoca-
tion not compel us toward increased paranoia and violence worldwide, as hollow
as this wish may be. May the leaders of the world have the wisdom to take all
of mankind into account when deciding how next to respond.
