I have not been online very much in the last few days, but I am fine. I live
in the farthest reaches of upper Manhattan, far away from what happened.

It is probably impossible for those of you who do not know NYC well to
comprehend what has happened. It is hard for those of us who live here. There
is probably not a block in the the entire city that didn't have someone who
worked at WTC. The news media is trying to avoid morbid speculation, but
there were probably 20,000 people in the two main towers yesterday morning.
The dust and smoke were thick all the way over in Brooklyn. Tons of jet fuel
burned for hours at extremely high heat.

For the record, Lincoln center is a good 4 miles from WTC and was not
physically affected. As far as I know all performances there have been
cancelled indefinately. All Broadway shows are closed indefinately.

All of this will begin to hit home when the casualty lists start coming out.
Those lists will be horrifying even to the most pessimistic among us.

David Hattner, NYC
