Tina -

Find a new teacher and/or a new school. Anyone who would even consider such
a stupid requirement doesn't know much about clarinet playing.

Tell him to get on this list and get some education about embouchures,
reeds, mouthpieces, ligatures and the differences in oral cavities just for
a start. And this guy is teaching grad students!!!????

My sympathies. -

Subject: [kl] Universal Setup

I have a question regarding mouthpiece/ligature/reed setups. I have
recently begun studies as a grad student under a new teacher who advocates a
specific mouthpiece and reed setup for all of his students, the Woodwind
K10L mouthpiece with Vandoren V12 strength 4 reeds. While he is a wonderful
clarinetist with this combination, I am back to my junior high days of
sqeaking and squawking as I play. I am principal in a symphonic band and an
orchestra, as well as the clarinetist for a woodwind ensemble and do not
feel the switch necessary especially when it hurts my playing ability. He
has also adjusted my embouchure, which is cool, but I have gone back to my
old mouthpiece. Do you think that one setup can be right for all
clarinetists?
