It depends on what you mean by superior. I have used this Jettel book, and I
agree that it is outstanding. It's figurations are more challenging than
Baermann. For some reason, if I play too much out of this Jettel book (or
any of his books, for that matter) I find that my sound really suffers. I am
not sure why that is.

Now you can take this in one of two ways. One, playing Jettel and really
striving to get a good sound with it is an additional (and thus worthwhile
challenge). I take it the other way, in that I seem to start sounding crummy
if I play too much Jettel.

In any case, if you use the Hite edition of Baermann 3, you will get a
superior book to the Carl Fischer. I do recommend that. It is better
organized and has some additional figurations that are important.

In any case, I agree with Sean that Jettel's is an excellent book to work
from. My difference is that I would never replace Baermann with Jettel. I
would only suppliment. Especially Jettel's work with the Harmonic minor!

I also think the back page of this particular Jettel book, "The Virtuous
(sic) Staccato" is worth reading and using.

Don't forget the Stark Arpeggio studies (aaaaaargh).

And to follow another of Sean's comments; if you find scale practice
insufferably boring and simply cannot do it, it's a sign that maybe you
should find another profession. The ones that make it are the ones who have
the fortitude to do the boring stuff over and over and over again. Very true,
sadly.
