Sort of agreed. I think initially it has to be the pliability advantage (the
physical aspects) over and above other characteristics i.e. 'vibrational',
which in turn helps the vibrational component of the reed to move toward a
re-vitalised & efficient level of movement, which then allows the
extension/vitality of reed life to take place. But in all probability these
two could be acting/adjusting simultaneously, due to this pliability.
