If it's any help at all, judging from a couple of Noblet clarinets in our
shop, and info Dave has given us in the past, the serial number is in the
neighborhood of 1990-1993. You should still check with Dave Surber if you
want to be more precise, you'll find him very heplful.

As for the clarinet itself, I'd reccomend the Noblet over the Yamaha from
past experience. With the money you say you have to work with, and if the
instrument is in good condition, the Noblet will easily give you your
money's worth. But the proof in the pudding is playing the instruments to
compare for yourself.

And as for the humor of the folks who read and post here, you'll find it's
usually typical of most clarinetists (am I opening a can of worms here?) and
I honestly had the same thought that Sean put to "paper" when I read your
initial question. I look at such moments as light-hearted, and hope you find
everybody who reads and posts on the list as fun to communicate with as they
are helpful and informative, like I do.
