Subj: [kl] new clarinet - and why?

Hello,

with this "strange" subject line I wish to post a question mainly to the
professionals, semi-professionals and other students of music on this list:

I own a set of Buffet RC clarinets, which I believe are by many viewed as
student- to semi-professional instruments? I am in my second year at a
music conservatory here in Norway, my Bb-clarinet is a little over 6 years
old (I bought it new in May '95) and the A-clarinet is roughly 13 years
old.. I bought it very well overhauled in December '96 and was then told it
was about 8 years old. I have been very happy with them both. :) Now to my
question(s): How do you "know" when you should start considering buying new
instruments? My fellow clarinet students play on Buffet Prestiges, so does
my teacher, and that is the most commonly used model by professionals here
- any insight/views on this instrument/model? The reason I'm asking is
because I'm thinking it might be time to consider a new set of clarinets
soon.. Thanks for any answers! :)
