Thank you David. That does make your comment clearer. I never would
have thought of that in terms of what you meant because I don't think
about the changing of pitch over the years in terms of transpositions.
Rather they are partially arbitrary decisions made to establishe
uniformity. For a long while Stuttgart pitch was the reigning king and
that one required a certain vibration at a temperature that was too cold
to play in.
