On the contrary. We know very well and everyone who has read Aurey's
clearly documented article on the incident should have an unambiguous
picture of what happened. You can surmise all you wish about what
Stravinsky's motivation might have been, but in the final analysis, it
is just opinion.

Was I out of town that day or are you referring to the B&H editions of
the Beethoven symphonies that are produced for the sole purpose of
presenting the original and the transposed part in one edition? So what
does this activity mean? That B&H banished use of C clarinet? That
some federal agency in Germany decided that C clarinets were never more
to be used? That the international clarinet league no longer tolerates
C clarinet music?

What publishers do does not constitute a dictate of what or how things
are to be played.

And you go too far when you say, "all pre 1850" music. There is a ton
of it that still remains untransposed.
