Double reeds and bagpipes are 'off topic' here (except that it's
always useful to broaden one's knowledge), but.....

....while everything in music comes down to opinion in the end,
this fellow had too many credentials to be dismissed casually. He has
manufactured and repaired bag pipes (war pipes) for many years, and the
write-up in the local Irish newspaper agreed that his work is sought by
serious pipers. He learned his craft from his grandfather when he was
a young lad, and so forth.

I might add that his music was truly beautiful. While bag pipe
music has never 'turned me on', this fellow's piping did. His ballads
were as sweet and smooth and lyrical as the best clarinet playing. His
drones contributed to the effect rather than detracting. He had total
control of the dynamics --- he from 'p' to 'f' within a single measure
many times.

Cheers,
Bill
