I disagree. The information most critical to your education as
an instrumentalist, musician, and performer will come not from
your classroom education, but precisely as a product of your own
initiative and curiosity and ambition. What is sad is how many
people and players choose to blame the education system for their
shortcomimgs, rather than recognize that a formal education merely
provides a rudimentary foundation, and the student/player must be-
come their own best teacher in order to succeed in the area of
their pursuit. If you're not passionate about educating your-
self as thoroughly as possible in your chosen field, maybe it
should remain a hobby and not be pursued at the professional
level, because you're not likely to reach that level any other
way.

Oh, and all of the "you's" and "your's" above aren't directed
at you personally, Kevin, so please don't take it that way.
I'm speaking in terms that apply pretty well to any person
studying any given discipline.

Neil
