Fiddler on the Roof is one of my all time favorite shows to play along with
Candide. As memory serves there is a big solo in the bottle dance sequence.
Also in the Wedding dance. The biggest problem that I hear in the playing of
Fiddler, is the really gross overplaying that people consider "klezmer"
style. The thing to really think about when playing something that is
"klezmeresque" is think Singing!!!!!!! Play the melody as if you were
powerless to stop it. Then put the clarinet down and sing it at the top of
your lungs, in a car where nobody can hear you. Go to the CD store and get
one or both of the CD's
Dave Tarras, Dave Tarras - Master of Klezmer Music, Global Village CD 105
Naftule Brandwein, King of Klezmer Clarinet. Rounder CD1127

These are the best CDs for any Clarinetist to have to hear what real
authentic klezmer clarinet playing sounds like. If you want to get my book,
The Clarinetist's Guide to Learning Klezmer, you will need these CDs anyway.
But if you get my book you will see some transcriptions of the tunes on these
CDs. Plus you'll get the added Chapter " How to play a Bris and make more
than tips" , and "Why the Baltimore Symphony pays less per gig than a Bar
Mitzva"

Later
Tom Puwalski, formerly of the Czar's Army Band
