The version I did with my wife's church in July, 2000, was definitely NOT
the Broadway or film version. The tempo and note intervals weren't all
that much easier but I think the key signatures for most if not all the
songs were. Still for me it was a dream come true. I came back from a
business trip in France and my wife dragged me to church that Sunday.
Anatevka or maybe Sunrise, Sunset was played by the oboist and pianist and
some of the kids sang. After the service I asked him who was to be their
Klezmer clarinetist. He saw my clarinet lapel pin and said, "You are!" (A
religious experience??) I had one rehearsal on Tuesday evening, the dress
rehearsal on Wednesday. Opening night was Thursday. Now that's a learning
curve. But it was a fabulous experience. 8-)
