My warm-ups just before a concert was ALWAYS a semi-long tone exercise
starting at D just below the staff. It would be played with barely
enough air support and embouchure tension to get a decent sound, at
pianissimo level, to wake up the muscles involved. Gradually extend the
notes up and down to low G and up to G on top of the staff. Maybe each
as a whole note at MM 40, skipping a note here and there, getting the
lip, jaw, and ear to feel what it is like to play the note with it's
best tone (hopefully the brain would remember and do it automatically
during the performance).
Relax, do it again, maybe add a melodic element, get flexible. And more,
I'm tired of writing now. Gotta quit, sorry.
