I missed only the last 24 hours of the convention.
I am VERY glad I was there, thanks to list members who wrote about last
years fest which whetted my interest for this year.

One thing that impressed me was the similar things that the very best
players say in common, from the "warm-up with the masters" sessions as
well as masterclasses and other discussion.

The warm-up sessions were Ricardo Morales, Eddie Daniels (substitute for
Gigliotti who did not attend because of illness), and Larry Combs.
Each with different specific exercizes and analogies emphasized:

1.Slow, accurate practice.
2.Quiet focused sound.
3.Have a musical reason or sound image for everything you play.
Morales--think of a composer or specific piece on w-ups and scales
Daniels--enjoy the sensousness of the touch and sound of the clarinet
Combs--eveness and connection between registers

A good variety of jazz players and bass clarinet doublers and
specialists.

Ann

ps I didn't meet as many list members as i expected, but that 1100 people
participated, that wasn't so surprising.
