I would think you are tightening the ligature much too tight. I am
personally a notorious over-torquer of screws and bolts in general, but I
have NEVER stripped a ligature screw, on a Bonade or any other, including
Luybens. I have always distrusted Luybens because I presume them to be
particularly vulnerable, due to the metal screws and plastic
threads. Still, I have never stripped one, nor do I know anyone who
has. You should not really have to tighten a ligature THAT much. In fact
I was taught to BACK OFF the top screw a bit, keeping it only tight enough
not to vibrate. If fact, lately I have been using an old Selmer expanding
metal ligature, which has NO screws at all! It holds the reed plenty
tight, although I don't think I would trust it for moving the mouthpiece
from Bb to A.
