Donna Higgins asked

<<<I was wondering if anyone could suggest pieces that would feature
some or all of the clarinet section (either just the first chair
players, or selected players from first, second and third chairs).>>>

. . . and Roger Garrett rather lamely replied:

<<<I'll try to think of more later - right now I have to take the van in
and get a new battery installed.>>>

What Roger *should* have done was refer you to
http://www.sneezy.org/clarinet/Study/BandMusic.html, which is a
directory of "best band music" compiled by some nameless mid-western
college band director. The coolest feature of the directory is that
pieces with fun clarinet parts are conveniently noted by a "@-----.

Unfortunately (for me), I am of an age where I've played most everything
on the list. While I might quibble over which level of "best" a
particular piece might be in, I haven't played any wind ensemble piece
I've considered "great" that isn't on it. It's a super aid when you're
trying to round out a program.

. . . one addition -- the transcription of Eugene d'Albert's Overture to
"Der Improvisator." =20
