Is perhaps the explanation that the performance you heard included a cadenza
at that point, which almost nobody else plays?

I know that Pamela Weston, in her so-called 'urtext' edition, includes some
extra music between the 'piu' lento' variation and the 6/8 finale. It's
true that I never included that, or ever wanted to, because it destroys the
relationship between the two slow appoggiaturas and how the clarinet begins
in the 6/8. And I think I'm right in saying that that extra music isn't by
Weber.

I don't remember why I didn't respond to your last mail in the discussion we
had about the Weber Concertino. Maybe because my computer once again decided
to break down - in the first sixteen months I had it, it broke down
seventeen times. Fortunately except for the vexations it caused me it didn't
cost me anything. Now it functions - let's touch wood - since medio December
without problems.

I remember I was in the car listening to the only good Dutch classical
broadcasting station, when it was announced they would give your
interpretation of the Concertino. Knowing your name and never having heard
you, I was very anxious to hear what you sounded like - as far as a car is a
good place to listen to someone. It was a good performance, but suddenly I
became aware I missed the slow part - the piú lento. Maybe because I was
detracted by the traffic. So I asked you about it. I don't remember the
whole discussion - I haven't got it anymore, but somehow I had the
impression that you denied its existence, you even wrote me how on the
indicated spot the instrumentation was - which corresponds to my edition.

However in the Rubank book "Soloist folio" these bars are lacking. Also I
heard the concertino played several times with either these bars lacking, or
played only by the orchestra, or played very slowly. I never heard a cadence
in it except once just before the end. It was an amateur who played it. I
did not think it was a good idea. (As you may know I am an amateur myself).

Actually when the discussion stopped I had the feeling you felt a little bit
pissy about my remarks, that is why I wrote:
