Is perhaps the explanation that the performance you heard included a cadenza
at that point, which almost nobody else plays?

I know that Pamela Weston, in her so-called 'urtext' edition, includes some
extra music between the 'piu' lento' variation and the 6/8 finale. It's
true that I never included that, or ever wanted to, because it destroys the
relationship between the two slow appoggiaturas and how the clarinet begins
in the 6/8. And I think I'm right in saying that that extra music isn't by
Weber.
