I'll second David Hattner's assessment. The only time I heard Leister
live was at the 1978 ClarinetFest in Toronto. In addition to a concert of
the Mozart and Brahms Quintets, which was stunning, he gave a series of
informal lecture performances, talking about various issues of clarinet
playing and equipment, and illustrating various points with performances
of movements and sometimes entire works from the standard literature. All
of the performances were wonderful - even those where he stopped talking,
picked up a slightly cooled down clarinet, and played. Very impressive.
