Thanks for your response, Gene. I am glad you are having a good experience
getting back to playing. Unfortunately, I think there must be some type of
neurological issue in my case. I am crossing my fingers that it doesn't get
worse, and is limited to whatever muscle weakness is causing this speicific
problem. I, too, had no problem getting back to playing a few years ago.
The problem I am having now started about 6 months ago. Fortunately, it
does not seem to be getting worse, and is better when I play a softer reed,
usually a #3 instead of a #3.5 allows me to play for a total of 45 minutes
to an hour, with a few breaks in between.

I do intend to keep playing at this level and have more sessions with breaks
in between in the hopes that the muscles involved with strengthen
themselves. It is all very puzzling. I'll let you know how it goes. And
I'm only 59!

P.S. As a returnee to the clarinet, I attended Clarinetfest a few years ago
and plan to be in New Orleans this year. The depth of playing has improved
tremendously since both of us started. I'm sure you would enjoy going, if
you are as serious about playing as you sound.
