Jo -

I purchased my pair of Concertos about 3 years ago. They suited my needs
exactly and they are wonderful instruments.
I liked the Leblancs much better than the Buffet R-13s that I tried, after
always regarding the Buffet as the "Holy Grail" of clarinets. I was very
disappointed with the Buffets.

I have also tried my teacher's 15 year old R-13 but still much prefer my
Concertos. He has tried my Concerto and liked it very much. I think that
he is a little bit envious of my horns. My Concertos are in better tune
with themselves and Leblanc has corrected many of the intonation problems
that seem to exist in many Buffets.

As noted by another lister, the Concertos have conventional trill keys. I
considered the Opus when buying my horns but was dissuaded by the fact that
the Principal Clarinet with the Southwest Florida Symphony had the left hand
G#/D# key removed because he had little use for it and he found it clumsy to
use. The additional cost for little additional benefit for me was also a
factor.

As I have posted numerous times on the list, I am a retiree who returned to
the clarinet after a 40+ year hiatus. I am an advanced amateur for whom
playing the clarinet is my "golf".

Subject: [kl] Opus or Concerto

I am thinking of buying a new Leblanc Bb clarinet and
am torn between the Opus and the Concerto. In the long
term how useful is the extra Ab/Eb key on the Opus?
Some people say that the Concerto has a more lyrical
sound...also the 189SL model has in line "jump" trill
keys while the Opus has offset trill keys. I know that
it's a matter of personal preference and obviously I
will try both, but I would really value the opinion of
any one who has played either instrument over a period
of time. Thanks.
