Hello everyone -
I am a masters student at the American Band College at Southern Oregon
University (and a clarinet player to boot!). One of my research projects is
to create a guidebook for correcting common tone production problems for
woodwinds. Any help you could offer in collecting the following data would
be appreciated.

For each tone production problem on the clarinet listed below, please tell
me what you think are the most common causes. In addition (and probably the
most important part), what would you tell a student to do in order to
correct each cause?

The four problems are:
1. Thin, pinched sound
2. Unfocused, fuzzy sound
3. Difficulty in the upper register (getting the notes to speak and/or be
in tune)
4. Hard, reedy, "squawk" sound

You can reply off-list to:

Thank you very much,
Christopher Holt
