Dear friends,
I were very disapointed with the letter I read from the clarinet section of
Berlin Phil..
First of all I remember that Philipe Cuper, from France, performed with them
in the last South America's Tour. Why?? I couldn't understand. Why call from
a french scholl?? Probably they have dozen of great Oeler sistem clarinet
players out there. But, do you want to know?? Because Abbado like a lot the
french system clarinet.
I fell that you can't mesure an artist by the instrument he/she plays.
I don't want to acuse them to be doing that, but, do you realize that the
man we are talking about is from ISRAEL??
Just to talk about the man, Chen Halevi is my friend and he had some timens
in Brazil plaing as a soloist. I can't tell you that he is a great teacher -
it because he has just a litle expirience on that fields - but he is a
PHENOMENAL clarinet player. In my oppinion if the Conservatoire choose him
is because they found a great clarinet player, that he is, matched with a
great potential on the teach duties.
Just to inform you, Cristian Benda, a professor that have been teaching
there, is brazilian and a great player/teacher. Why they didn't made the
same with him??? or Eduard Bruner. I know that Wolfgang Meyer plays, too,
french system.
I am very disapointed about that proval of discrimination.
Maybe the International Clarinet Association should make a letter and mail
to the Berlin Phil. and the Culture Minister of Germany saying that the
Clarinet's world are upset with that matter.

Best

Fernando Silveira
