Robert Abraham expressed a preference for Gordet oboes (German type) as
opposed to the Lore@-----. It is interesting that there never was a
manufacturing concern named Gordet. The name was apparently invented =
by an
American importer, Ben Storch. He bought oboes from various sources,
re-worked the bore, and then stamped "Gordet" on them. There were two =
basic
types of Gordet oboes, a thick-walled model commonly called the =
"German"
type, and a thin-walled one called "French." Actually, I have been =
told
that the French Gordets were made in Italy, and at least some of the =
German
ones came from Czechoslovakia.

Here at the University of Evansville, we have a German-type Gordet oboe =
and
an English horn of the same type. We would be glad to trade them =
evenly for
good Lore=E9 instruments if anyone has a strong preference for the =
Gordet
brand.
