In 1900 the german system was commonly, but not universally, played
everywhere, even France. It has steadily disappeared everywhere but Germany
and Austria. Could the superiority if the french system be to blame? Or,
God forbid, the political and military idiocies of Germany in the first half
of the 20th Century? WW I and WW II were really bad PR for anything german.
