I can attest to the difference in the _feel_ of reed response as a function
of altitude. I still can remember the difficulty we all felt in the Army
Field Band the time we played in Denver - reeds felt very different up
there. Also in Quito, Ecuador. Someone may have an acoustical explanation
for the stuffiness (hardness) the altitude adds, but it seemed very real at
the time.
