Hello to all.
I have just recently subscribed to this nice clarinet posting deal. So,
let me introduce myself. My name is Michelle and I just finished my
freshman year at Indiana Wesleyan University. My major is music
education. I have played the clarinet for 7 years now. I have been
involved in many honor bands and I was in the Iowa All-State Band and
Orchestra. I have recently been substituting in the Marion Philharmonic
Orchestra. My life time goal is to be in a symphony and teach private
clarinet lessons. Well enough about me.

I have studied privately for a few years now. But, recently my teacher,
Dr. Chris Lessly, has been concerned with my hand position, for I have
double-jointed fingers. I have not had many problems with technical
passages until just this past year. My fingers have a tendency to lock up
in their double-jointed position while playing. I have the most trouble
while playing fast passages. I was just wondering if anyone had any
advice about this subject. It would be most appreciated. (any hints on
finger strengthening exercises, etc. ?????)

Oh and what is on my stand:
C. Baermann Complete Method for Clarinet Op. 63
Concerto Mozart [I am trying to memorize the 1st mvmt. for a concerto
competition :)]
Sixteen Grands Solos for Concert clarinet and Piano by: Daniel Bonade
Brahms Sonata No. 1
Natural minor scale sheet
Hindemith Sonate (I haven't touched this one yet...aghhh) :)
Copland Concerto (I am doing a little sight reading with this one)
Bernstein Sonata
C. Rose 32 Etudes for Clarinet
H. Klose Celebrated Method for the Clarinet
Saint-Saens
and some misc bass clarinet music

Does anyone have any suggestions for good books to help with music theory
stuff? I am having a hard time in school with the whole music theory
realm.

-Michelle
