I really do agree with everything you've said. While agreeing with you,
I was stating that there are many musicians, whose music I have enjoyed
and performed, who I would not personally appreciate having airports
named after. Yes, "She's Leaving Home" meant a lot to me. Beautiful
melody and lovely use of the cello. I did leave home at that time. Two
of the clarinet majors in my Sr. class at Oberlin went and auditioned
for military service bands and have had long and successful careers.
Larry Guy went into the Navy Band, and Tim Foley (now Lt. Colonel Tim
Foley) is still in the Marine Band, in fact he's the conductor of "The
President's Band". At the time, I was so choked up about the war and
into the music of the Beatles & Bob Dylan that I couldn't believe they
were going into the military to play their clarinets. Now a days I wish
I had enough drive and determination to practice the Baermann book for
an extra hour each day, like Neil. I don't know if I'll ever make it
through "The Devil's Dance". I'm very depressed about that. ANNIE
