It depends on how the clarinet maker chose to design his instruments. For
example, A clarinets typically take shorter barrels than Bb ones because the
designer chose to split the upper joint and barrel at a spot higher up.

My Pruefer clarinet, on the other hand, takes a barrel that is 69mm to be in
tune for A@-----. The designers chose to split the upper joint and barrel
closer to the octave key.
