You tell us.. we got them from English Military Bands.. they are the guys<or gals> with the big poofy hats and the mace that march in front of the band or military unit and lead the band. They usually have the rank of Major in the military as opposed to the enlisted members of the band.. In a high school or university marching band they take on other leadership roles and responsibilities.
