I agree with you with the caveat that is has to make financial sense for the
companies to do such a thing. If in fact "quality control" does not result
in any further financial gains then the company will probably forego such
improvements.

If in fact we as consumers band together and stop buying mass-produced
mouthpieces because of inadequate QC then QC will come to be valued; if we
continue to buy inaccurately dimensioned merchandise then nothing will
change.
