Good suggestion, but not always practical.

In Colorado Springs, we have about 4 music stores that cater to the band
instrument trade. Between those 4 stores are about 10 locations. One of
those stores has no mouthpieces. One had a couple B45's, and they stocked
those only for the needs of a teacher that recommends them. Same situation
at the third. The fourth has a reasonable selection of mouthpieces, but not
a staggering assortment to try.

While I was in Phoenix last week, I related this to a friend of mine who is
a pro jazz sax player (doubles on clarinet and flute as well). He said the
situation isn't really any different there...and Phoenix is 4-5 times as
large as Colorado Springs. Now, however, he had a half-dozen mouthpieces
that he let me try (including a Lakey...quite interesting...).

YMMV...
