Annie,
Motivation is half the battle and it sounds like you've got students who may
soon be ready to tackle anything because of their past success with that
book and CD. I think that younger students need success before the harsh
demands of major works. BRAVO!!
Thank you for that insight and if you recall the title of the work, please,
let me know.
Thanks,
Tina

I have been reluctant to mention this, but I think now is the time. As I
was teaching my younger students this past year, I noticed that their
was a blue and red CD put out by -- (I can't remember who. Not Rubank,
but the same people who publish Rubank) -- Anyhow it was a "play along"
CD of Movie Themes. I tried it out, and the melody lines were very easy
and repititious. Great Phrasing. I marked slurs in most the phrases.
Anyhow, the "accompaniment" was just great. Made the kids sound like
they were playing along with John Williams conducting a great wind
ensemble, as they played the theme from Jurassic Park, Dances With
Wolves, An American Tale, Star Wars and many other lovely melodies. I
couldn't believe how fast the kids moved forward with their tones and
phrasing, and they loved the CD and book. Many of them can now play a
short "recital" from tunes off the Movie CD. I had wanted to mention
this way back when you were discussing "phrasing" and melodies for
beginners, but I didn't feel like getting into an argument with anybody.
