I have been reluctant to mention this, but I think now is the time. As I
was teaching my younger students this past year, I noticed that their
was a blue and red CD put out by -- (I can't remember who. Not Rubank,
but the same people who publish Rubank) -- Anyhow it was a "play along"
CD of Movie Themes. I tried it out, and the melody lines were very easy
and repititious. Great Phrasing. I marked slurs in most the phrases.
Anyhow, the "accompaniment" was just great. Made the kids sound like
they were playing along with John Williams conducting a great wind
ensemble, as they played the theme from Jurassic Park, Dances With
Wolves, An American Tale, Star Wars and many other lovely melodies. I
couldn't believe how fast the kids moved forward with their tones and
phrasing, and they loved the CD and book. Many of them can now play a
short "recital" from tunes off the Movie CD. I had wanted to mention
this way back when you were discussing "phrasing" and melodies for
beginners, but I didn't feel like getting into an argument with anybody.
